ΔI8 Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the ΔI8 Cobrowser Chrome Extension ("ΔI8," "the Extension," "we," or "us") collects, uses, and protects information. ΔI8 is built with a privacy-first, minimal-data philosophy and complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, including the Limited Use Policy.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to:

• The ΔI8 Cobrowser Chrome extension
• Backend services required to support shared or real-time browsing features
• Any official websites or dashboards directly operated by us

ΔI8 does not function as a general web tracker and does not collect data unrelated to its stated purpose.

2. Information We Collect

a. Information You Provide

We collect only information that users explicitly choose to provide, such as:

• A display name or alias
• A room or session identifier
• Optional passphrase (hashed locally before transmission) for private rooms
• Chat messages or notes created within a shared session
• Anchor/bookmark labels and associated URLs created during sessions
• Session goals or objectives (if set by users)

Providing this information is optional and fully under user control.

b. Automatically Processed Data (Functional Only)

To operate core features, the Extension may temporarily process:

Presence and Navigation:

• The current tab URL, only when required for an active shared session and when "Share Page" is enabled
• Page title of the current tab (for display to other participants)
• Session timestamps (for example, join and leave events)
• Extension state (such as enabled, disabled, or in-session status)

Cursor and Scroll Position (Opt-In):

• When "Share cursor position" is enabled, the Extension may process:
  • Mouse cursor coordinates (X, Y position on the page)
  • Scroll position (vertical scroll percentage)
  • This data is shared only with other participants in the same active room
  • Cursor sharing can be disabled at any time via extension settings

Session Activity:

• Jump/navigation events (when users navigate to another participant's page)
• Anchor/bookmark creation and access events
• Chat message timestamps and authorship
• Participant presence state (online/offline, join/leave)

This data is processed only while the relevant feature is actively in use and the user is in an active shared session.

c. Information We Do Not Collect

ΔI8 does not collect:

• Browsing history outside active shared sessions
• Keystrokes, form input, or page content (except user-created chat messages)
• Precise location data
• Advertising identifiers
• Background tracking data when the extension is idle or disabled
• Personal or sensitive data unrelated to extension functionality
• Passwords, payment information, or other authentication credentials
• Content of web pages beyond URLs and titles

3. Data Usage Disclosure (Chrome Web Store – Limited Use)

ΔI8 collects and processes only the minimum data necessary to provide its shared browsing and real-time collaboration features.

• User-provided information (such as a display name or room identifier) is used solely to enable shared sessions
• The current tab URL is processed only while a user is actively participating in a session and has "Share Page" enabled, to synchronize shared context
• Cursor and scroll position data is shared only when "Share cursor position" is explicitly enabled by the user
• Chat messages, anchors, and session goals are shared only with other participants in the same room
• No data is collected when the extension is idle, disabled, or not in use
• Session history is stored locally in the browser and may be sent to backend services only when a session is finalized (if applicable)

ΔI8 does not:

• Sell or rent user data
• Display advertisements
• Track users across websites
• Use data for marketing, profiling, or analytics unrelated to core functionality
• Share data with third parties except infrastructure providers necessary for service operation

All data usage strictly complies with the Chrome Web Store Limited Use Policy.

4. Purpose of Data Use

All data processed by ΔI8 is used solely to:

• Enable shared or collaborative browsing features
• Maintain session state between participants
• Display shared context when users intentionally connect
• Synchronize cursor positions and scroll states (when enabled)
• Facilitate navigation to shared pages and positions
• Support chat and anchor/bookmark features within sessions
• Diagnose errors and ensure service reliability

Data is never used for advertising, marketing, or cross-site tracking.

5. User Control and Transparency

ΔI8 is designed so users remain in control at all times:

• No shared session → no injected interface
• Leaving a session immediately stops all session-related data processing
• Disabling the extension halts all data collection
• Cursor sharing is opt-in and can be disabled via the extension popup
• Page sharing is opt-in and can be disabled via the extension popup
• Jump feature is opt-in and requires explicit user action
• UI elements are dismissible and reversible
• No background collection when the extension is idle
• Users explicitly initiate and terminate all data usage
• A confirmation dialog appears when enabling cursor sharing
• Export and deletion of session data require explicit user confirmation

6. Data Storage and Retention

• Session data is stored temporarily to support active features
• Data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the service
• We do not maintain long-term historical logs of user activity
• Local session history stored in the browser can be deleted by the user at any time
• Backend session data (if any) is retained only for the duration of active sessions
• Data may be retained only if required for security or legal compliance
• Where applicable, users may request deletion of associated data

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade user data.

Limited data may be processed by trusted infrastructure providers (such as hosting or real-time messaging services) only to operate the Extension. These providers are contractually restricted from using data for any other purpose.

Within Shared Sessions:

• Display names, room identifiers, and presence state are visible to all participants in the same room
• When "Share Page" is enabled, your current URL and page title are visible to other participants
• When "Share cursor position" is enabled, your cursor coordinates and scroll position are visible to other participants
• Chat messages, anchors, and session goals are visible to all participants in the same room
• You can leave a room at any time to stop sharing data with other participants

8. Permissions and Access

ΔI8 requests only permissions strictly required for functionality, including:

• Access to browser tabs and URLs only during active shared sessions and when "Share Page" is enabled
• Extension storage for user preferences and session state
• Scripting permissions to inject UI elements on pages (only when in an active session)

Permissions are never used to collect unrelated personal information or browsing activity.

9. Security

We implement reasonable safeguards to protect user information, including:

• Encrypted communication channels where applicable
• Access controls on backend services
• Separation of session data from operational logs
• Passphrase-protected rooms use local hashing before transmission
• No sensitive data (such as URLs, identifiers, or session payloads) is logged in production builds
• While no system can be completely secure, we actively minimize risk and exposure

10. Children's Privacy

ΔI8 is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Extension evolves. Updates will be reflected by the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
